Follow-up Observations of SPY White Dwarf + M-Dwarf Binaries
We present the results of follow-up observations of white-dwarf + M-dwarf binaries identified using spectra obtained as part of the SPY survey. Spectra of the Hα region were obtained with the SPIRAL spectrograph on the AAT telescope. Of the eleven stars observed, seven are binaries with periods in the range 2.8 hours to 7.7 days. We also show that one of our targets, WD 0137−349, has a brown dw...
متن کاملSpectral analysis of 636 white dwarf - M star binaries from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
Context. We present a catalog of 857 white dwarf (WD)-M binaries from the sixth data release (DR6) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), most of which were previously identified. For 636 of them, we complete a spectral analysis and derive the basic parameters of their stellar constituents and their distances from Earth. Aims. We attempt to measure fundamental parameters of these systems by co...
متن کاملTwo nearby M dwarf binaries from the Two Micron All Sky Survey
We report the discovery of two binary M dwarf systems in the immediate solar neighbourhood using the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS). The first is an M6.5 companion to the nearby G star HD 86728 (Gl 376). The known properties of HD 86728 indicate that the M dwarf (Gl 376B) is old, metal-rich and only 14.9 parsec away. The M dwarf is highly active, with both Ha and X-ray emission. Thus, Gl 376...

متن کاملResolved Spectroscopy of M Dwarf/l Dwarf Binaries. I. Denis J220002.05−303832.9ab
We present the discovery of the common proper motion M9 + L0 binary DENIS J220002.05−303832.9AB, identified serendipitously with the SpeX near infrared imager/spectrograph. Spectral types are derived from resolved near infrared spectroscopy of the wellseparated (1. 09±0. 06) components and comparison to equivalent data for M and L dwarf spectral standards. Physical association is deduced from t...
